1. Are German windows made to UK standards?

Yes.  All our windows are built to comply with the latest regulations.

2. How long does it take for my windows to be delivered?

Once you have ordered your windows, they will be delivered within two months.

3. Are timber windows expensive?

Timber windows and doors may cost 2 or 3 times the price of uPVC frames. Estate agents say that selecting an inappropriate window material can detract from the value of your home. Timber replacement windows that combine character and performance will almost certainly add value.

4. Who will install the windows for me?

The German Window Company can either arrange for installation or can put you in touch with a registered installers in your local area. Each installer employs experienced craftsmen who have been trained by us to install our products to the highest standards.

5. What is the guarantee?

All our doors and windows are covered by a comprehensive 10 year guarantee (subject to terms & conditions available on request).

6. How often will my windows need re-decorating?

You should expect our coatings to last for 5 to 8 years without the need for re-decoration. The precise cycle will depend on a number of environmental factors such as the geographic location of your property and the particular aspect and amount of exposure to the elements the window receives. Re-decorating itself is a very simple task as there is no sanding down or preparation required. An average window should take about 15 to 30 minutes to re-decorate! Some of our installers offer a maintenance package - speak to them for further advice.

7. Are timber windows good for the environment?

A 2005 WWF report has concluded that wood windows are better for the environment than PVC windows. PVC windows were found to be less sustainable and more hazardous than wood in the report "Window of opportunity: The environmental and economic benefits of specifying timber window frames".

WWF is encouraging specifiers and buyers of windows to choose wood which has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This guarantees the wood has been sourced from a well-managed forest or other controlled wood source, and ensures that the timber is legal and not from a controversial source.

In comparison, PVC is made from a non-renewable source - oil - which makes up to 43 per cent of the raw material required to make PVC. PVC windows also generate more waste and use eight times more energy to manufacture than timber windows. The report also states that hazardous chemicals are released into the environment during one of the methods of PVC disposal - incineration.

8. What is 3-layer timber?

Multi-layer timber is a form of laminated wood where the layers are bonded with their grains in opposite directions. The use of multi-layer timber is well used in the UK for long span timber structures. Although common practice in France and Germany, is it rare to see this technique used in window and door construction in the UK. Our patented 3-layer process is particularly effective in resisting warp and twist - it is the twisting of timber during wet weather, more than the swelling itself, which causes windows and doors to stick. 3-layer timber sections are standard throughout the Rabau range.
